How to Prepare Your Child for the Arrival of a New Baby
The arrival of a new baby can be a traumatic event for your children no matter what age they are. But don’t stress, there are a number of things you can do to make this a most memorable event.
No doubt you’re busy decorating the nursery and planning for the delivery. However, spending time with your kids is crucial. Sit down with them and discuss what’s about to take place. Listen to what they have to say and address any questions they may have.
But don’t embellish the situation by telling them they’ll soon have a new playmate or that everything will remain the same. As you know, children take what you say literally. If you lie, you’re apt to lose their trust. And obviously there’s going to be a lot more going on. The regular routine will be a thing of the past. There may be times when chaos is the norm for the day. So make your children aware that you expect them to play their part as big brothers or sisters; and let them know that they too are very special.
Once you give birth, allow your children to visit you at the hospital. Encourage them to hold the new baby and let them know how happy you are to see them.
And chances are you need to rent one of the smaller truck rental vehicles for all the presents you’ll receive and for the furniture for the new nursery such as absolute position sensor and baby carige. It would not be a bad idea to have a few special items set aside for your kids. That way they won’t feel as if they’re “old news.”
Afterwards at home, commence the routine by teaching your youngsters how to care for the little one and ask them to help you out. But don’t despair if they show no desire to lend you a hand. They probably need more time to adapt to all the changes.
Take advantage of when the baby is asleep. Utilize those precious hours to spend quality time with the children. Keep in mind that once they’re grown they’ll remember the special moments with you; not the fact that the house was spotless.
Bringing the baby home from the hospital should be one of the most joyous occasions in your family’s life.
